My house is all decked out for the Witching Season--is yours? And what better way to celebrate the coming of Samhain/Halloween than a NEW RELEASE?

Just five more days until the official release of HARVEST HUNTING, people! And to celebrate, I'm giving away two mystery baskets full of goodies that all somehow relate to the book and/or the season! What's in there? Hmmm...smell-goods and ear-candy and all sorts of autumn paraphenilia. The baskets will NOT be containing copies of Harvest Hunting.
Why am I not showing a picture of it? Because the baskets are a surprise--but you all know I give good baskets, so you know these will be wonderful.
Because I cannot afford international postage, I'll also be giving away a $30 Amazon online gift certificate to one international winner. So you can make your own basket via Amazon.com. :)
CONTEST IS OVER! No further entries will be counted. We'll announce the winners later this week!
Anyway, to enter:
1. You MUST be 18 or over.
2. You MUST include an email address for contact in your entry--don't run back to put it five entries down the line--if you forget, delete your original post and re-post with email addy included.
3. You MUST include whether you are USA or other country (and pls specify).
4. Contest ends November 1st at midnight, Pacific Time.
In your entry, tell me: have you ever had an encounter of the ghostly kind? If so, what was it like? If not, do you ever want to actually meet/see a ghost--you can't choose whether it would be friendly or not.
Happy Hauntings, Blessed Samhain, and Happy Halloween. And most of all: Happy HARVEST HUNTING.
Bright Blessings

I had a friend who swore Satan visited her. This is as close to a ghostly encounter I ever want to come. We stayed up all night staring at the wall in fear.
Also has a few suspicious Ouija board incidents.

I've never had a ghostly experience, but I'm really curious. I scare easily (do NOT like scary movies at all, for example), so in a way I'd like to meet/see a ghost, but I'm also apprehensive.
Thanks for the chance - can't wait for the new book!!! <3

I have a friend who lived with me and my husband, who has a spirit who follows her no matter where she goes. One night we were watching a movie and we ad most of the lights out in he apt. we lived in and we heard a noise from our kitchen and went and turned the light on and it had moved my canisters in a different order. I always go from lg to sm well i guess he decided they need to be med sm lg. Kinda creepy but cool.
Thanks for all that you do! Look forward to reading the book!

I wouls love to meet a ghost, regardless of whether or not it was friendly. I strongly believe that apparitions, ghosts, poltergeists, etc. are real, and I am looking forward to my first encounter. I'll probably have nightmares for weeks because I'm a wimp, but that's okay with me! It would be worth it!

I have had numerous ghostly encounters, some good and some not so good. I'll start with a good one...
On the night of my great grandpas funeral, my cousins and I were playing basketball trying to let out some of our stress. We all turned around about the same time, and my great grandpa was standing there...he just smiled. I felt like he was just telling us that everything was okay and not to cry over his passing as we would meet again someday. It was an amazing experience, and really helped me ease through his passing.
On another note, I woke up in the middle of the night in October a few years back, to a solid black shadow looming over me. I felt like someone was sitting on my chest, and when I tried to scream, or make any noise, I couldn't. It was the scariest thing I have experienced to date. Oddly enough, I was talking to a neighbor of mine shortly after that, who is also "sensitive" and she (without me explaining my experience to her) told me of almost the same thing happening to her. It was then that I told her that I had a similar experience and we were completely dumbfounded.
Anywho....

Now that that's out of the way.
I've had two ghostly experiences, one that scared the heck out of me and Henry (which is just what I called him) who used to follow me around. He did it for jeez...10 years? Then when I stopped being truly miserable (constantly unhappy and stressed out) he disappeared.
The second experience terrified me so much that I still refuse to go to that area. I didn't even believe the ghost stories until that happened. That one's rather a long story, but it still gives me the chills.

I believe spirits are around me all the time but I'm not sure that I've ever "seen" one. The closest I'd say I've come was after my daughter was born. I have always believed she was connected to my grandfather who had already passed because she was born on his lucky day- Friday, December 13th.
I hadn't been eating good and being home alone with an infant made it hard to find time to cook because any time I put my daughter down she'd bawl and want to be held.
One day, when she was about 3 months old, I set her in her bouncy seat and put her far enough from the stove but within my sight. I thought for sure she would start up, but while I cooked, she sat in her chair and giggled and laughed at the doorway going out of the kitchen into the middle room of our house as if she was looking up at someone standing there.
I KNEW we were the only ones in the house, but I still glanced around the stove at the doorway. A deep sense of familiarity came over me and laughed and spoke out loud to thanked my Grandpa, because it felt as if he were keeping her entertained for me.

Ghostly experience #1: I was 8 years old and I saw a Roman man, like ancient Roman in a Toga and leaves around his head and he walked through my room, looked around and faded out. I didn't freak out or anything.
Ghostly experience #2: I was 13 and was in an old abandoned shack in the New Mexico wilderness and saw a woman throwing a baby into the arroyo. She sobbed and faded out.
Have a blessed Samhain!

Ok got all that out of the way!
Here is the thing, I actually work for a large death care company, (we own an operate about 400 cemeteries and funeral homes across the country.) And I have worked in a cemetery. I haven't had any scary ghost encounters at all. But I have seen several people attending there own funerals! Also until I got married, my grandfather who passed when I was 6, was around me all the time. He did meet my husband...or really the other way around. I was sleeping in and my husband came in to wake my up and there was a very obvious indentation of someone sitting on the bed behind me and it freaked my husband out! I rolled over, said "hi granddad" and went back to sleep. Those are my stories.
And yes I would still welcome any encounter! Scary or not!

my entire life is full of spirits thus creating some havock on a daily basis. i seem to be a beacon for them, to guide them, and help them chose their paths for their next vessel. or if they just want to come back for a visit from Home they always seem to stop by and say hi to me. the lists are long for what happens on a daily basis however the strongest "physical" reactions are dizziness and disorientation when an exceptionally strong spirit is near. in my house they have turned the coffee maker on and off, made lights flicker, turned ceiling fans off and on and the most prominent act was a team of spirits that blew open two of my doors to the outside at the same time. there has been many a time i have had to tell them to leave as i can't handle their disturbances. so in other words that is a very big yes that i have had spirit encounters and have them on almost a daily basis

When I was a little girl, about 8, I was in bed asleep when I clearly remember waking up because my grandfather sat down on my bed. He told me that he loved me and that I shouldn't miss him and I would see him again one day. The next morning when I got up for school, my mom told me that my grandfather had passed away late the night before. That has always stayed with me. I know he visited me, and I wasn't scared at all.

Over 10yrs ago I had a former boyfriend who was murdered. I had just seen him a few days previous to this. A few days after the funeral I was eating an something went down the wrong way and I started choking. I could have sworn he tapped me hard on the back and whispered in my ear "Don't you know better than to eat so fast?"... it was always something he told me since I always eat way to fast.
I've yet to have an encounter, but I would very much like to have one. I've gotten extremely urgent gut feelings in certain places, but nothing beyond that. However, my grandparents, who live in my great-grandmother's house, swear up and down that her spirit is still there, moving things around and generally being as tricksy post-life as in life. :)

I don't think I have ever had a real ghost encounter, just my over active imagination at work :) As a teenager, my husband (then boyfriend) and friends would go to supposedly haunted places to scare ourselves silly. We went to a haunted beach (I never did find out the story behind it) but to get to the beach you have to walk through the woods. Someone or something was walking parallel to our path, we could hear the footsteps (even when we weren't moving) but we never saw anything or anyone.
Secondly, I think my deceased father in law is still "living" with us. My husband and I were in rough times when we got married, and pregnant, so we moved in with his dad. 3 years later, his dad passed away, in the house. It has been about 5 years now since his passing, and I still hear someone knocking on the door at 5 am, smell coffee when no one is up and hear someone walking around early in the morning.
21, USA, ncreek08 at gmail.com, The ghostly encounter I have had was a few months ago when i saw my daughter sitting on the stairs in my living room. She passed away a year ago next month. It scared me because she was only 13 days old when she passed but i knew it was her because she looked identical to my mother in law except her eyes were both blue and not one blue and one green like my mother in law. i don't really like horror movies or anything like that but i do like vampire and werewolve stuff. Thanks for the chance....I am really stoked about HH.....can't wait!!!!!!
I've had a few ghostly incidents, but mostly in my sleep. The first time it happened it was shortly after my Grandfather died. For a few months, I would have these incredibly vivid dreams where he would show up and I would slowly convince him of the fact that he was dead. It wasn't particularly scary, but it was a tad embarrassing as I was in my second year at Evergreen and seriously felt like my Grandpa was looking over my shoulder the whole time.

I was about 4 years old when I my first encounter,I was sleeping in my room I woke up and there was a short dark haired woman standing near me.She hugged me then left. The next day I noticed a picture on my dads bedroom wall I asked "Daddy who is the lady in that picture"
Dad responds "That's my mother she died before you were born"
I tilted my head "She was in my room last night she hugged me"
Dad just stared at me like I was kinda crazy.

My ghostly encounter was when I was around 10 years old. We had moved into my grandmother's old turn of the century house. We'd lived there for about a week, when we started hearing unusual sounds at night. My cousins and I stayed up one night to investigate. We started hearing the sounds around one in the morning and I gathered my courage and poked my head out of the den to look up the mahogany stairway. At the top of the stairs stood a man. He looked very familar to me and I turned around to get my cousins to come look. When we looked again, he was gone.
Later, I saw the man again, only this time in pictures with my grandmother. His name was Bill and he had been her companion, until he died in his sleep ten years prior. His bedroom was the first door on the right at the top of the stairs. That bedroom became my bedroom. My grandmother said his presence lingered to protect her and keep her company. They had been very much in love in their golden years.
I never saw him again, but the sounds still came and went at night. I learned to listen for them. Hearing the sounds made me feel safe instead of scared, thinking of Bill and my grandmother's love.
I have been waiting to read Harvest Hunting for a long time....can't wait to buy my copy next week!
Hi! Yes I am over 18, my email address is philski155 AT Aol Dot Com.
And yes I live in the USA.
Now for my entry. I have always believed in the Paranormal ghosts or spirits. When I was eight we lived in a "haunted house." well going down the stairs towards the play room one night I saw what looked like a woman in a long dress.. Then when I was a grown person I traveled to Lexington Virginia. I took the haunted ghost tour, and the cemetary was spooky, but the thing that really got me is I went there with some one. We were walking and its as though someone brushed up onto my shoulder the person I was with still swears they did not brush up against me. What bothers me the most is I ws thinking about my father while walking the streets. Now I am open to other ghosts/ spirits manifesting in front of me. Now a surprising thing is that my friend swears they see ghosts all the time.. I personally believe that there is a spirit following me most days, and a psychic has told me it is true. But I am not sure I trust most psychics. My name is Phil by the way. I can't log into blogger to post my name.
Well my experiance was with my Dear Grandmother.. i had not had her in my life long..When she passed i ahd a very hard time dealing with it all. She came to me more then once letting me know i would be ok, She always had a way of being there no matter what.

I can't say I've ever had a ghostly encounter, per se, but I inherited a lot of my grandmother's possessions when she passed over a year ago. The furniture, particularly anything with cabinets, still seems to carry her essence. Whenever I miss her, this sounds funny, but I open up a cabinet and just smell. Makes me feel like she's right there with me.
There was another time last year when I was gardening, and I could *swear* I heard a cat miaowing in the same petulant way our family's late cat Penny used to. As Penny was buried in our yard at the time, it kind freaked me out, but further inspection proved the noise to be a grey catbird sitting in the tree near where I was weeding, LOL.

Yes had several ghost encounters. The one that sticks out most is when my mom died. That morning my dad and me where sitting one the couch when my grandmother apeared. She told us not to worry that my mom would be ok now and she wouldn't hurt no more. She disapeared and about 15 minutes later my mom died. We were all sad but dad and me felt better knowing she wasn't alone.

I have had a couple of encounters with the things that go bump in the night. The first was when I was about six years old. I was staying at my grandmothers on this particular night and at the foot of my bed a mist that then formed into a man looked at me for about ten seconds and then vanished. I thought I dreamed it, but the next day when I told my gran what had happened she said that she believed me because she said that she believed that it was her father watching over us.
The second was in the house that I reside in now. It was definitely a Ouija board experiment. Me and three other friends had been playing with the board and about two or so hours later we started hearing knocking noises upstairs. CREEPY!! Long story short, we blessed the house and nothing went wrong lol!

i used to work and live at a pagan store/piercing/tattoo shop and one night i was "woken up" (kind of in that space between waking and sleeping) by a amphibian like creature shaped like a man but it just had an amphibian like quality to it. its skin was ever changing, black background but many colors like oil spilled on pavement. the creature was squatting over me. one foot on either side of my chest just staring at me. my friend (at the time) is a HP and he said he thinks it was a Golem. either way it scared the crap out of me. the "Golem" (not sure what it was) was just curious but it was a scary curiosity as if it was thinking what i would taste like. its not really a Ghost story but aside from seeing apparitions a lot when i was younger, including one dressed as a pirate hanging from a rope in my doorway, i think that one is my most memorable
so glad Harvest Hunting is coming out! Have a Blessed Samhain as well!

i have had several encounter with ghosts, other worldly beins and orbs. the encounter that was the most memorable was on new years eve when i awoke around midnight.
when i looked around to what had awaken me, i saw a shimmering whit form at my bed side. it was about 5 feet tall, slightly rounded and shimmering as it moved. it had no facial features. i reached over to turn on the bedside lamp and whoosh it went up through the ceiling like a huge vacuum had pulled it up. on the last night of the same year, i woke out of a deep sleep with the same sensation as the first encounter. this time same form was at my bedside. it was shimmering and moving. as i reached over to turn on my lamp, my arm and hand went through its form. the minute i touched the lamp, it disappeared through the celing. my hand and arm was ice cold and felt like you had sprayed cold mist over it...

I've had a few unexplainable experiences. When my husband and I were dating we had several experiences at his mother's house. The funniest one was in the bathroom. If you went to the bathroom you could feel something tickling your right foot. We spent several days trying to find drafts or anything to explain it. It felt furry and soft like a cat's tail and at night I would sometimes hear purring in that bathroom even when the cats were nowhere near.

I used to live in a house with a few roomies and not one of us wanted to be in the living room alone. It wasn't as bad during the day, but at night no one felt comfortable in that room. No crazy experiences there just bad vibes. That was enough for us, and we didn't stay there long.
Another story is that my fiancee passed away, and he came to visit me the foll in fall. The following year on my birthday, he came to me in a dream, where he gave me one of his famous hugs that I missed so much. That was a much nicer experiance.
Can't wait to read Harvest Hunting!

I have had a few ghostly expierences, although most where just flashes of lights out of the corner of my eye. I dont really mind the white flashes, but the dark flashes always speeds up my heart just a little. My son and I have both heard and seen kids running around our house. Although most of the time, we never were able to get a good look, just quick flashes.
I wouldn't mind a visit from a ghost, especially if I could help the spirit in some way and allow the spirit to move on.

I've had 2 experiences with what I believe to be the same spirit. On Halloween a few yrs ago we were on the way home from trick or treating. I was looking at the window and saw a figure pop up walking on the side of the road at the little old cemetery...(I say pop bc I didn't see them there a few seconds before). I asked my husband if he saw it. We turned around and went back.... nothing. So we headed back in the same direction... this time the figure was on the opposite side but around the same area. My friend behind us didn't see it in their lights. I found out about a yr later the house across the road kept seeing someone walking periodically that night.
Last yr we had one of the biggest snow storms we have had in a very long time. We lost power for about a week. I decided to walk to my friends bc I was bored. I walked past the old cemetery and looked over.... all the headphones were wiped clean of snow and there was no tiretracks or footprints. it was like that all winter when it snowed.
Thanks for offering the contest!!!

The house I lived in, which had been my grandparents, as a child and teenager was haunted. Sometimes you would hear the kitchen door open and close even though it never moved, after the door "closed" you would hear footsteps walk through the kitchen and into the living room where they would stop. Several people over the years saw a man sitting on the front porch leaning back in a chair even though we didn't have any chairs on the porch and knew that no one was out there when the man was seen.

I bought my house a little over two years ago and since day one my boyfriend and I have had many appearances of the resident "ghost cat". At first we thought it was our eyes playing tricks on us, however we noticed our friends were seeing it as well. One night our friend said "Hey your cat is on the top of the fridge!" it turned out both our kitties at the time were asleep on the floor. Other friends noticed it sitting around in various places in the house. We have tripped over the ghost cat.... to look down and realize no cat was there.
I also suspect that there is something else lurking about due to the sound of someone walking back and forth in the hall outside my bedroom. When I have gotten the courage together to get out of bed in the night and investigate I never find anything going on.
I actually have had a lot of ghostly encounters at my parents home but they tended to have me running to the living room to sleep on the couch near my parents room.
Thank you for the chance to win a goodie basket!

Deloris friendly spirit I had living with me, her favourite color is red and her favourite game was to take and hide things on people.
I had friends Jenny & Louise visiting from Montreal, I didn't tell them about Deloris, but when Jenny's red hair brush went missing, I knew I had to tell them about Deloris.
I poured the girls a glass of wine, demanded that Deloris return the brush from where she took it. Jenny took the news really good, Louise on the other hand freaked out.
About 30 minutes later all three of us went to see if the brush had returned and it had, Deloris always returned her treasures when I asked her too.
Louise completely freaked and bolted from the house screaming, refusing to come back in.
I loved having her living with me and she loved having me there too.
I have many stories of Deloris, but this is my favourite!!

I do love Samhain! One of my favorite holidays actually. I've had a few ghostly encounters, one where a ghost car followed us for a good mile before fading into the darkness, also, when I was very small. You see when I was small I was more attune to my psychic ability. I used to see a woman in my grandmother's house. She was pale, tall, and thin, with long dark hair. She used to smile at me and put a finger to her lips, or simply watch us kids sleeping. Once I made the mistake of telling my aunt, and she told me that ghosts were 'devils trying to trick us' which after that, made it very difficult to 'see'. I'll tell you another. When my mother's goddaughter died, I was sitting in my bedroom, reading a book. Suddenly I glanced up and there she was, walking from the hallway to the kitchen with a bandage on her arm. I think she was just checking up on us. We also used to have a picture I took of a portal in a mirror, no joke, in the picture you can see the wispy forms of a skull with horns, an older woman with ruffled shirt, and a young girl with a frilly dress. Don't know what happened to that pic though.
Have a 'interesting' Samhain!

The closest thing that I can think of as a ghostly encounter would be that whenever I walk back from work on campus and its after dark at least one light dies right as I walk by it. I though maybe the lights on campus were just faulty, but it has happened at home to. It always freaks me out when that happens.
If I had the chance to meet a ghost I would decline. Knowing my luck it would be a malicious spirit. To my knowledge most ghost that would have any interest in my would be people who died a violent death and want to hurt others, or a ghost that wants help doing something. I would feel bad for the second because most likely I would not be able to help.
Have a wonderful October, Happy Halloween, and blessed Samhain!

Too many encounters for logging. A friend's father showed up at his own funeral and was squeezing his nose that stuck up out of the coffin like a clown nose. Really hard to keep an appropriately somber look on my face.
Lately it is arguing with the spirits to leave the TV off when we are going to bed!

So my ghost stories. My step-brother was 16 when he passed because of a car accident in 2006. The night that he died I was doing a small rememberance ceremony for him because I was unable to attend the funeral in Indiana. As I am doing this ceremony, a gift that he had given me fell off of a shelf above my head and into my lap. At that moment I knew that he was ok.
My stepmom keeps a few mementos of my step-brother in her bathroom closet. Whenever I shower in there, the doorknob to the closet violently wiggles. My step-brother used to come by and jiggle the door handle anytime that I would take a shower when I was living at home.
Also I frequently see a big orange cat spirit walking through my home. I don't know why it's here, seeing as my husband and I have never owned cats (allergies). But anytime that I am feeling down that big orange cat comes around and just sits and looks at me and I feel so at peace after it visits.
Samhain Blessings,
Jess

When I was about 12 years old, I was in the kitchen. I turned around and saw a woman in a light blue dress smiling at me from the doorway. My grandmother said it was just her mother and that she was buried in a light blue dress.
My mother and I our both haunted by several spirits both good and mischievous. At first we believed it was her but when I left for a year some followed me as well. We both get that warning when something bad is going to happen that has saved us a couple times. Once we were riding to the store when mom suddenly decided to pull over. I asked why and she shrugged only saying that she needed to pull over.
We sat on the shoulder for a minute or so then pulled back out and continued on our way.
Two lights away a car three car lengths ahead of us got t-boned by a large truck and everyone inside died.
We're never sure if its a spirit guiding us or just our intuition, but things like that happen all the time.
There has also been noises, objects moving, and shadows moving in the house. The other day I got up to use the bathroom. Opened my bedroom door to find a large dark shadow standing there. I had to tell it to leave before I could pass.

Having had a suspicious Ouija board incident (meaning that I caught my best friend moving the disc), I didn't for a long time, until my wedding this past year. I've always believed in spirits, but not necessarily ghosts, which I take to mean the actual memory of an actual person. On my wedding day, I heard and felt several people touching me and patting my hair as I was getting ready, and I heard my grandmother tell me how pretty I looked. It could have all been in my head, I suppose, but it was the windiest day of the year in upstate NY, and it stopped five minutes before I walked up the aisle and started up again five minutes after we got inside the reception hall.

My first encounter had to do with my daughter who is now 12 having an imaginary friend that did everything with her..played ate with us etc. she described her to me and come to find out it was a little girl whos body had been found right outside of our apartment. She called her pretty. Before we found out all of this I would wake up feeling like someone was watching me sleep, we had electricity go in and out all of the time and things would fly off the fridge at night and the rocking chair rocked by itself during this time. It was all very freaky but I never felt like we were in any kind of harm I just felt sad at the thought that it could have been that little girl... We moved out about 2 months after it all first started not because of that but because of the smell in a totally clean apartment and ours was the only one that had it. They searched everywhere and even called in a exterminator (?word) team to see if there was a dead animal in the walls etc. no reason for the smell but I couldn't handle it anymore so we moved. Ack now I feel all skeezy again, lol. Thanks for the contest its fun to read the other posts :)

I haven't had a ghostly encounter, but my mother has. When she was a young girl, her aunt was sick in the hospital and my mom visited her just before going to perform in at a school choir show. At the show, she happened to look up at one point and see her aunt smiling and waving to her from the back of the room, just under the clock that read 8,27.
Afterwards, when my grandpa picked her up he told her her aunt had died at 8,25.

Actually awoke one night unable to move as something was on top of me. I was literally paralyzed, not just with fear. This lasted a few minutes and then dissipated. That is the most frightening contact, but I am surrounded by kind loving souls all the time:)
By the way, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your work! You have inspired me! Thanks!

I have never encounter a ghost but I do want to encounter one (or more)
I grew up with a "poltergeist" (though I use the term loosely, I feel she was more a guardian. She was a neat freak and would get very upset if things were not put in the correct places.
I have very clear memories of the dirty clothes I had hidden in my toy box come out and hitting me at force.

I definitely believe in ghosts, and have had a few encounters. One of the more memorable encounters happened when I was in the tween years in the late eighties. My clock radio (older style turn dial) visibly changed stations across the spectrum on its own (I watched it move). Things my sister and I had just put away weren't where we had put them, and we had a weird vibe.

I hope to never see a ghost. The whole concept gives me the willies, and I have waaay too active an imagination. I have a couple of friends who see ghosts/spirits, and every time they mention it I think "Thank the Gods I don't see that stuff."
*shivers*
I have seen a ghost and I have to admit it was a very unreal experience. Ive also had a few odd things happen that I can really only explain as being paranormal.

4) I have not had a direct ghost encounter that I know of. I do believe some sort of spirits are around us, whispering into our subconsious, or whatever (how we get answers seeming from nowhere) but I do not know what they are. That glimpse of something at the edge of sight? I live in a rural area, and do see "flashes" occasionally, but haven't seen any substance to it.

Story time!
Picture it: 3:34ish in the morning, watching some terrible B horror movie on USA up all night (hosted by Gilbert Godfried way back then) in the dark. I've got a cat curled up on my head and a blanket clutched to my face. The next thing I know, the music from the tv is going all creepy, the girl in the movie is doing something stupid like walking INTO the the dark room and ... there's a loud crash behind me in the kitchen.
I jump about ten feet into the air and the cat sticks her claws into my scalp to hold on. After gently removing her and checking my head for blood (and my pant leg for urine) I do the very thing I was criticizing the chick in the movie for ... head into the dark kitchen to check out the noise.
All of the metal mixing bowls, which had been stored safely in their cabinet above the counter, were scattered all over the kitchen floor.
Remember, the cat was stuck to my head and there was no one else around to open the cabinets (which were still closed) and throw the metal mixing bowls around.
After that, I picked up the cat, turned on every light in the house, rearranged the livingroom so my back would never be to the kitchen again, and slept on the couch.
Seeing a ghost in the flesh, so to speak, might be kind of cool. But in all honesty, I'd probably pass out or pee myself. Or both!
Hello all,
Yes I am over 18 years of age, my email addy is: buggafluffy@yahoo.com, and I live in Columbia, Missouri USA.
I can facilitate communication with a Ouija Board on my own and have always been in tune with spirits. I have had people tell me my engergy hums when I am communicating with the other side.
Three months after my mother died, I was sitting in class at the University of Missouri-Columbia. It was an early spring afternoon with the scent of dogwood in the air and the windows to the classroom were wide open. Outside of the classroom was the power plant which fuled the entire University. It always smelled like sulfur.
The professor was talking about adaptive devices used to assist students in learning when I smelled something I had not smelled in years. It was my mother's favorite perfume, White Shoulders. I felt like my mother was at peace, which never happened while she was living, and the scent stayed with me in my clothes throughout the rest of the day.
As a child I had a dog that all but raised me, from birth till I was 11 years old he was at my side, protecting and watching me. One night I dreamed we where walking in a twilight wood, talking together, sharing stories of our life together. As we reached the shore of a lake, he told me it was time for him to go and I had to stay behind. He told me how he would always be with me but no longer where I could touch and see him. That morning my father found that he had passed away in his sleep in his bed. A death I could wish for everyone. To this day I know he is both with me, and waiting for me somewhere.

The only encounter I've had was seeing a shadow of a man standing in the doorway between the livingroom and the diningroom while I was in the livingroom. I was completely freaked out because we already thought there was ghostly beings in our house and I didn't want to meet them.

I am not sure if this would be considered a ghostly experience, but...
I was in a car accident about seven years ago. I was sitting in the back seat and I hit my head on the ceiling...yes I was wearing my seat belt. I was sitting in the middle because I was the smallest person in the car. When I hit my head I saw my mom holding out her hand to me wanting me to go with her. (My mom died when I will 7 1/2)

I live about a quarter mile from one of the oldest cemeteries in town. I was sitting in my living room about a week after I moved in and I caught what I thought was a moving shadow out of the conner of my eye. When I glanced over to see what it was, I saw a young girl, about 7 or 8 years of age, with long blonde hair walking in my kitchen. She was wearing a long winter's gown and a night cap, and she was barefoot. She looked to be from the late 1800's time period. She looked dead at me and I screamed and then she was gone. The sight of her made the hair on my body stand up! I couldn't believe what I saw. I grabbed my keys and ran out of the house (without my shoes) and drove to my boyfriend's house. I made him come back with me to see if the coast was clear, and made him stay over for a couple of nights to make sure nothing else decided to appear.

I've had a few encounters, but apparently when I was very young ( 5-8 yrs old) I saw the ghost of my grandfather in the livingroom of my grandmas house. I had never met or knew him, but I described him to my parents and they all vouched that I was describing my grandfather.
My sister has had way scarier encounters than I have though. She's had balloons that were deflated reinflate and come down the hallway from the other room... and the a/c wasn't on, no breezes, nothing. She has a no balloon policy now.

I don't think I have had any ghost encounters, but I have had odd noises that are around a lot. My best friend has what she calls "radio people" that go with her no matter where she moves. If I go to visit her, sometimes they follow me home. It sounds like a radio or a TV is playing in another room from which you are in but not quite loud enough for you to tell what is being said or played. If you go into the room, it stops. It can be quite annoying.
Have had some incidents since my husbands father died in Feb. of this year as well. My husband and I just bought a house, something we would have been able to do without money from my father-in-law's estate. We have also used a lot of my father-in-law's belongings to decorate with (he collected antiques) and we have had to place a lot of things in our storage shed in our back yard. A few weeks ago my husband got upset because the door on the shed kept coming open when there was no way for the door to open. We finally had to put a brick in front on the door to keep it from opening. We've also had other things go on in the house near my father-in-laws aniques, things shifting, shadows you catch out of the corner of you eye, soft shuffling noises. It's all just kind of strange.
Would still love to have a full on ghost sighting.

The closest I have come to a ghostly encounter was when my son was about a year and a half. We had gone to see my grandmother so she could see her great grandson. This visit was full of family and traditions. One of those being, taking flowers to the cemetary to put on my Grandpa's grave.
We all got out of the car, paid our respects and placed our flowers about. When all was done I picked up my son and headed back to the car. My son turned in my arms to look back over my shoulder and waiving, said "bye-bye".
My son up till that point had NEVER said or waived bye-bye to anyone. Talk about goose bumps!!

And yes i have had a ghostly encounter and it was omgoddess i cant express how i felt when it happened it was so very emotional. When my son was born he wasnt breathing at one mintue my room only held a few people the next thing i know it is loaded with doctors and nurses. I knew something was wrong because he wasnt crying at that point i looked at my room door and saw my grandmother who past away when i was 5, walked in came and kissed me on the head and said everything will be alright she then walked over to where the dr were working on him did the same and kissed his forhead the moment she kissed him he began to scream. I told a friend of mine what happened and she said it was the drugs. But i know for a fact that she was their she is my sons guardian angel and she is the reason he is 7 now.

I actually have had a few ghostly encounters, when I was about 11 and 12. My mother and I lived in an apt in NJ. I was behind the apt, it was dark out, but you coulod see into my bedroom through the window and where my closet door was, the light was on, which was strange becasue no one was home. There was a figure in the doorway not looking in my direction, but as i watched, it tunred it's head in my direction. It was jsut a silhouette, so no features could be seen. I ran into the apt in the only door and up to my room, and no one was there. There was no way someone could have gone out without passingme. Also I had a few experiences where things would fly across the room, very small objects, but a freind and I saw it once, so I had a witness. It never really scared me, but made me more curious about it all. I've never had experiences outside of that apt though.
I am very happily 40 years young.

I am Chippewa. The women in my family have always been strong medicine women who attract spirits. I can't have children due to being a type one diabetic and all the complications I have from it. The day my 2nd nephew was born, a liitle girl was stillborne about a minute before he was delievered. She came to me and asked if she could come home with me. She would be my girl for awhile. That was 10 1/2 years ago or so. She recentlyleft me I think. I never get told good bye. They just go... One of the funniest encounters happen when my sistrer in law said she's never seen or heard a ghost so they don't exist. She said this in our house when a little boy had died back in the early 1900s. This was the year that the Bouncing Tiggers had come out. we had one sitting in the living room. It was a Christmas gift for my niece. Everyone but her had went into the kitchen. She started screaming bloody murder. Our little boy had made Tigger go off and he start giggling.
I hope you have a wonderful Samhain. Thank you for having another great contest.

I have two experiences the first:
I was about 12 years old it was the middle of the night I had gotten up to get a glass of water. We had night lights in the hallways so you wouldn't trip on anything (like a dog); I turned the hallway from the living room into the kitchen and could see a woman in a tattered white dress walking towards the laundry room. She had her back to me and never turned to face me. I just remember her dress made me think she was from the 1900s it was like an old night gown; her hair was long and white. I turned and went back to my bed room deciding I wasn't really thirsty anymore. My brother owns the house now and some 16 years later I'm still the only one that has seen her and I haven't seen her since. I didn't really feel scared or threatened around her it almost seemed like she was lost.
The second time I saw a ghost was about 4 years ago while I was still in the Air Force, I was assigned to monitor the video surveillance to a restricted area; while watching my cameras I saw someone walk up to sector 6, I couldn’t really tell if it was a man or woman it was like I couldn’t really focus on them more like just a silhouette. As policy said I dispatch a patrol out to see who it was and why they were there. When the patrol arrived they call the area clear saying there was no one there but I could see the person standing right next to the patrol on the camera. I could see person but they couldn't. After a bit of arguing with the patrol that someone was there the figure left. I refused to watch sector 6 for a while. We called it the ghost in the camera because I wasn't the only person that it had happened to I've known 3 other monitors that had the same thing happen.

Have I ever had an encounter of the ghostly kind?
Yes, I've had a couple but my first on that I remember was when I was about 7 or 8. It's was at my Grandma Archer's funeral, a couple of my cousins, brother and I was playing hide-n-seek in the funeral home yes, durng mu Grandmother's funeral. It was my turn to hide and my brother and I ran toward the back of the funeral home where the inbomding room was, I didn't know that at that time. But when I open the door to run through there I saw this elder gentleman just standing there I could see right through him, we both turned and hightailed it out of there. And that there was my first ghost encounter.

I have had a few ghot encounters. One I won't talk about another is when I was young. We lived in haunted house. There was a room that everyone always had that feeling like someone was watching you. If you were turning the bedroom lights off when you got to the front room they would all come back on. Neighbors would tell us that they thought we were home when we weren't because the lights would be on and shadows would pass infront of the windows. The most aggressive act that happened was some one was at the door asking to sell us something and the door slammed shut on him so we locked it and wouldn't talk to him again.
Because that is just one experience that I have had, and I can't specify good or bad I would rather not have any more. When they are nuetrule or benign it's nice but bad is really BAD. No thank you
Your books are awesome and I can't wait to read the next one. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.

I have had an encounter with a ghost. It was back in Sept. 2005. My daughter was just over a month old and I was visiting my mom in Georgia. I woke-up to hearing my Grandma calling my name and thinking to myself "why is she here." (She lives in Vancouver, Wa.) I sat up in bed and she sat next to me. We talked about my daughter and other stuff. She asked if she could hold her. I handed my daughter to her and she said I have a beautiful daughter and that she will be very important to take care of her. She said that she has always loved me even though she wasn't around alot. I told her that I loved her too. She handed me my daughter back and I turned and put my daughter back in her crib, when I turned around she was gone. I thought maybe she gotten up and when to the guest room to sleep. I went back to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, while eating breakfast, I asked my mom where Grandma was? She said what do you mean? I told her what happened and she said I must have been dreaming. I decided I must have been. I went shopping, went out to eat and went a park with my mom and daughter. When we got home there was a message on the machine for me to call my Aunt in Vancouver. I did. She told me that Grandma had passed away last night. I knew then that what happened was real, she was telling me goodbye and wanted to see my daughter before she left.
It gives my goosebumps to this day.

my family had a pretty creepy ghostly encounter. when my brother tom was seven i used to wake up hearing him talking in his room in the middle of the night. he was talking to a little boy named sean, which was the name of the son my mum would have had a year after tom, if she hadn't miscarriaged. sean would talk to my brother for hours in the middle of the night, for a year, until tom started crying that sean wouldn't leave him alone, and he just wanted to sleep, but sean would make him sit up and play with him or draw pictures of them together. finally my mum went to see a psychic who told her to tell sean to go away. my mum did this, and tom never saw him again, but mum still hears him crying at her bedside.

When I was about 10 my friend and I went for a walk with her dog (called Hap)and passed an old disused creamery. We had passed the building on hundreds of occasions and never went in(because we were good little girls and the big sign read keep out). Well on this day we both had this urge to go inside, we both felt that something was wrong. So thats what we did. When we got inside Hap started barking at the corner of one of the rooms. We went over to where he was standing and looked up to see a nest full of young chicks and a parent bird. Nothing really spectacular about that. Then as we were leaving two men with hard hats came over to shout at us. We told them the dog had got loose and we had to get him. Thats when they told us the building was due for demolition the following day. We then told the men about the birds and they said they would remove the nest before they knocked it down (we were ten we believed them)But to this day I still believe something called us into that building and therefore if I ever get gut feelings like that I follow them.

When I was 8 I had what I thought was a dream. My grandfather came to me, told me he loved me and to take care of my mother. I woke up feeling that he was dead and more than a little freaked out. I asked my mom and was told he was fine. When I came home from school she told me the truth. My grandfather had died the night before and she didn't wanna tell me before school. To this day I don't know if he came to me in a dream or if I was awake. I think that as a kid I convinced myself I was dreaming because I didn't understand the concept of ghosts. As an adult, I feel differently. Regardless, I know that something supernatural happened that night.

I had a close encounter with a flapping windowshade left me hanging by my fingernails from the ceiling one stormy night in a reputedly haunted victorian house I stayed at for a writer's retreat. Otherwise, I don't seem to be sensitive to spirits around me, darn it.
I have been visited by a few loved ones after they have passed. They always appear while I am asleep ao it isn't that scary. My latest one was when my brother in law who pssed away in July visited me to give my sister a message. kinda freaky

When I was in my teens my house was visited by what I think might have been the ghost of a man who died in a tornado that had passed through 30 years before my neighborhood was built. We can't exactly say why be we just 'felt' that the ghost was male. One night my sister and I were alone while my parents were out, my stepfather had this horrible creaking computer chair--BUT IT WOULD ONLY CREAK IF THERE WAS SOMEONE IN THE CHAIR--and the chair started creaking, and no we didn't have ANY pets. I went down into the basement to see if maybe I was wrong about my stepfather being out as well...NOPE, there was no one in the basement. There were a few other times that we heard him climbing up the stairs and one time he turned on the dishwasher. It never went beyond that and he seemed to have left us after about two weeks of visiting the first time.
It was a completely surreal experience, but made my beliefs in the beyond that much stronger.
Thank you for this amazing chance at a prize basket!

So, my family used to live in this gorgeous old three story log cabin in WV. When we bought the house, we were told that the original owner shot his wife, and then himself in the master bath suite. I happened to get the former master bedroom as my bedroom, which happened to not only be right next to the master bath, but also be their former bedroom.
So, I'm up late reading one night, when I hear footsteps walk up to my door. I figured it was my little sister, since she had a sleepwalking habit at that time. When I lowered the book to look up, nothing/no one was there. So, I shook it off, and figured it was the house settling. Well, then I heard the footsteps walk into my bedroom. This freaked me out! So, I quickly turned off the light, and dove under the covers. The next thing I know, SMASH! It sounded like someone had taken their arm and smashed all the porcelain dolls that I had on my dresser. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well that night. The next morning, nothing was out of place.
Another time, my sister and I were waiting for my mom to get off work (she worked from home), so that we could go meet my dad for supper. There was a summer storm out, and all the pets (who were afraid of storms), were sitting with us on the couch. The next thing we know, this old rocking chair upstairs starts rocking by itself... The rhythm was that of what someone rocking in it would be... She and I freaked out!!!

8 years ago, my grandfather committed suicide. He was in his early eighties. I shattered me to the core.
One year later, my husband was walking our dogs & there was a short man standing under the street light at the end of our drive. The man was dressed in jeans & a flannel shirt (my grandfather's "uniform"), he nodded to my husband & just disappeared. *POOF* He was gone. I had dreamed of him every night for that year, then that night was my final dream. It left me with a sense of peace & that he had made it into the Summerland. It is because of his death that I discovered my true identity in this wild and crazy world.

Lost my dad when I was 11. Maybe that doesn't count but I know that he's there, standing behind me with a hand on my shoulder (like he used to) to calm me when it is necessary. You've ever seen the video of Never gonna be alone by Nickelback? Something like that.
As my cats sometimes stare at points right behind me, you really come to think there are ghosts.
But maybe I'm too much a chicken, I don't know if I could handle living with bad ghosts...
I have had a few suspicious Ouija board incidents but not anything ghostly. I think it might be cool to have one but not sure how I would react to it.

I wouldn't say Ive never seen them, but I am extra sensitiveto them being an empath, especially when I go to a place thats haunted or there are spirits around.
I used to tell my younger brother when he'd have a bad dream that it was ok, cause I knew there was someone-something, winged watching us, angel maybe, not sure wont assume & offend someone..
Im so very emapthic that one time we went to a place that had been known for animal tortures & hazing & all kinds of horrible things I literally broke down into tears beacuse I felt like all of these other emotions were screaming in my head to be told.
Not terribly sure what Id do if I actually saw the spirits that I feel, as I can't handle scary movies or the typical haunted houses they do on halloween..

I've only had one ghostly encounter and it was not too long after my grandfather died. He was blind when I was born, so he's never seen me. It happened during the summertime. I had come home from work and turned on all the fans in the house, and I swear I did turn them on. I come back out of my room and the fans are not on, but I distinctly remember turning them on.

The closest encounter with a ghost would be in my dreams. Every once in a while I will dream that I can "feel" a ghost in my dream, and my vision gets all wonky and I have a hard time speaking. It's like it almost possesses me and I try to move out of that area of the room to make it stop. It seems real during the dream. Since I haven't had a real encounter I would say that I would rather not encounter one :)

All right, for ghostly encounters I have a few to list. My mother has the second sight, and has stated many times that I have it as well. She has done a few ghost investigations in our home town, and I admit that due to work I have not been able to assist. My mother did tell me she saw a woman in a white flapper like outfit hide in my bedroom.
For myself, I've have had many dreams about my deceased grandfather. We always meet in the same resturant, and it always seems like he has somthing urgent to tell me, but we never get that far.
Also, we've had several pets that have passed beyond the veil that I've seen, and petted in ghost form. We're cat lovers, and currently have five. We had a siamese named Leonard, and a black cat named Noah both of which have past. Leonard paid me a visit one night while I was surfing the web. I only saw him out of the corner of my eye, but when I put my hand down at kitty level, it was like I was petting him. Noah likes to pick on my dad, and will walk in front of him a lot. We have another black cat now, Salem, and my dad will ofen say he just saw her upstairs when she had been curled asleep on the couch the whole time. It all very creepy but also very comforting in a way. It gives me hope that there is somthing after this life. I would like a chance to actually meet a ghost like one of the ghost hunting shows on tv. There is a prison near me that offers ghost tours, but sadly they are book up solid for the next year last I check. Blessed be.

A ghostly encounter? Well where do I begin. I live in a house that is actually haunted by a young boy (no older than 7) and a girl no older than 15. But my most memorable and probably scariest encounter was when I lived in a previous house. I have two cats at that point and they were quite protective of me. Well one night while sleepin in bed apparently a black smoky type entity was literally hanging over my head. It looked like smoke and was about to fall on me when one of my cats jumped onto my pillow and growled before the other stayed on my lap. What ever it was decided to leave, but only from the house. To this day it still stalks me outside my home. i am Wiccan so I sage the house and cast protective wardings around each of the doors and windows to keep unwanted energies and entities from inside.
That is just one of my many encounters.

I have had a ghostly encounter. It was after my father passed away. I was in his room with my mother and all of a sudden, the side of the bed where he slept dipped in as thought someone were sitting there and his cologne filled the room. It didn't last very long, but I am convinced that he came back to visit.

January 23, 2005 - my grandfather passed away in his chair. He died peacefully in his sleep and did not feel any pain from the heart attack he suffered.
Im the oldest of 36 grandkids (only 6 are boys) and found out that he too was the eldest of his generation as well. It was tradition that the eldest of the generations were held a bit more higher than the others, often preparing us for life, learning as much as we could because the eldest should be a positive role model for the family. I learned so much from my grandfather, even how to cook! LOL! He loved everyone no matter what difference they had. He respected all people: gays, lesbians, straight people, foreigners, the neighbor - anyone. So long as they gave the respect and courtesy back, they would always be welcome in his home.
The night he died... I was asleep. Something woke me up out of the blue that night...but I couldnt tell what was going on. I didnt get back to sleep so easily...
It was 12:05am on January 25th. I woke up bright eyed and nervous again...
My daughter woke up yelling for me.. "MOM - KONKY IS DEAD, OH MY GOD KONKY IS DEAD! HE JUST SAID ITS TIME TO GO AND THAT HE LOVED ME(Konky was his nickname) She no sooner completes her sentence, and the phone rings....
My mother calls to tell us her father died. The coroner determined he died two days prior in his sleep by a heart attack. But, he died without pain. They have this unusual way of determining whether a death is peaceful of stressed...
She hung up the phone and Ariel had come running over to me in a panic. We were so heart broken - this man basically raised me... and it hurt like hell to know he had died.
The following night, it was just my daughter and I... we attempted to go to sleep. Around 3am, I woke up to what felt like someone was sitting on the side of my bed. I couldnt move, I froze, but I wasnt scared... I swear I felt a breeze on my face... I know it was my grandfather kissing me goodnight like he used to when I was a kid... I can still feel his presence and its a feeling I hope never goes away.
I have seen shadow people in my house quite a bit. I will be sitting in my living room and will see someone walk by the door to my bedroom. Look up and no one is there. Even my cats will pause for them to go by. I really don't think that are harmful, just curious.

I have never seen a ghost but I did work at a place that was haunted. I have seen thing thrown at people and lights would come back on after you turned them off. I also moved into an apartment and kept hearing voices. So I had a friend of mine cleanse the house and they went away.Though he didnt think it was ghost but more demonic. As for meeting a ghost I think it would be great. Even if it was scary. I have always been interested in the paranormal.

I have never seen a ghost. Once in my live time I would like to tour the Tower of London and at least be able to see one of it residing guests.
Yes I have had numerous encounters throughout my life with ghosts. To include some of my beloved animal companions. Probably the most vivid was being woken up out of a sound sleep to someone yelling my name, upon opening my eyes, I noticed that there was a gentleman standing in my room next to the Edison Phonograph of my brother's winding it up to play. I was a bit startled but probably more sleepy than scared. As I told my brother about it the next morning we did discover the phonograph was fully wound up, and my brother always made sure that it was never left wound up.

I have had a few encounters over the years but none so strange and creepy as this one:
A few years ago we lived in Lawton Oklahoma, we had been experiencing a shadowish like entity in our apartment, my husband had experienced it ruffle his hair one night when he was laying on the couch, and we had both seen it walking in and out of my sons room, just a dark figure, floating sometimes and moving very fast other times. My husband has always seen ghosts and spirits and other things-he has a good story of being chased by a big black dog that went through a fence when he was a child living in Virginia- anyway he wouldn't say anything about this dark thing in our apartment to me until I would ask him did you see that? One night I was the last person to bed, and as I was sliding quietly into the bed, knowing Chris was already asleep, I jumped a mile and let out a squeal when two massive hands completely covered and caressed my breasts. I grabbed those hands with my own hands and then they sort of just evaporated. Afterwards I just kind of went into shock realising those weren't hubby's hands due to the fact that the size of hubby's hands are same size as mine, quite small, and these had just "disappeared" but still had to check to make sure that he hadn't somehow moved across the bed and back without me feeling it, so i woke him and asked if he had just fondled me and of course he hadnt! I was very very freaked out and kind of felt violated for a few days after that. And my friends all had a good laugh at me when i told them about it.
Who knew there were randy ghosts out there?
never had a ghostly encounter but I believe i'd like too. I have so many relatives that have already passed i on that I believe I have a good chance of getting a friendly spirit. lol

We grew up on some of the scariest movies most parents would cringe to hear what we watched as kids. In our home, on weekends, we had family night w/ sister, mom & dad. As long as it wasn't triple X rated, everything was fair game and we loved every one of them. The goreyer (<-I think thats spelled wrong?) the better :)
I am pretty sure I had 3 friendly, ghostly experiences in my lifetime but I am only going to talk about 1of them, I think it was meant to be a sign that better times are coming-so heres some history first
Without making this too sad I'll try to keep it to the point. We're a law enforcement family w/that said on 8/22/06 my husbands dad was killed in the line of duty along w/another officer, doing a charity bicycle ride raising money for families, who lost there loved ones, killed in the line of duty-Ironic right?! A semi driver supposedly didn't see their box truck w/flashing lights & squad cars running baracades but anyway. The semi guy drove his truck 60 miles per hour right into the back of the bicyclists support truck who then drove into the group of riders, killing the last 2 guys in the group- his dad & a indiana state trooper. Things have not been good over the past several years. Trying to cope w/his loss as a spouse was hard enough, for my husband, it was aweful. He is also a heli officer & his dad was literally his best friend & mentor. Add the lawsuit crap & all the other death chaos & we have an omlete :) but to the point now about a year ago was my visit. It was late & I was exhausted & yet something woke me in the middle of that night. I had that feeling, like someone was watching me. All I could see in the begining was a brite light but then the light faded & shadowed down to his dad's image. Now I'm physically feeling not cold but warmth, as he smiled at me and I felt everything sad & negative just drain away. He said to me, "Everything is going to be alright now" and he faded away. It took me a long time to fall back asleep and when I woke it was not a feeling of a dream but more a memory that it had happened. For the most part, things have been better but then, time heals all wounds, so who knows. I do know that after that night, I'd swear that he was with me and that it wasn't a mind trick.

No ghost encounters though I would like to have a friendly encounter just to know there's more out there then the physical plane.
I used to live in this super old house in the bronx when I was a teenager. I would hear the house creaking and never really thought anything of it. One evening after dinner I went to put my plate in the sink and saw this kind of translucent blur run past our open back door and it slammed shut. I ran outside and when I checked no one was there. That's probably the only encounter I've ever had. It shook me for a moment, but looking back I find it really interesting.

I have had many experiences with the paranormal. Ghosts in several houses I lived in, stories from step siblings who had seen more on an old farm they lived on, seeing a body shape hanging in an upper window at a Victorian home in my old town of Ligonier, IN... Sometimes it has frightened me and other times it has simply entertained me.
When I was small my mother asked for an astray and it floated to her. No one seems to know why but in the house we lived in the fans would mysteriously just turn on.

i have had many ghostly encounters. the first i remember i was 12 and at a friends house and a blue light floated down the hallway. when i was in my twenties i lives in a hounted house, i was at a friends house and a ghost came up through the floor and went up through the ceiling. i had a gaurdian spirit for awhile. i have heard stereo speakers say my name more than once. i havent had any encounters in my 30's though.
Once when I was younger my family was visiting friends who lived in an old house. When it was time to leave I went to get my coat in the bedroom & had to walk across the room to turn the light on. Half way there I noticed the digital clock switching from hour to hour to hour, like it does when you're setting it. That combined with the feeling that someone else was there scared the hell out of me. Found out later that our friends had seen an old farmer walking down their hallway numerous times. It wasn't a mean spirit just somewhat unsettling to experience. I definitely believe but I think I watch to many horror movies to not be a little scared. hehe

My mom is clairvoyant and I'm an empath. I've had many encounters. Let's see, one story...My mom has had a black shadow that's followed her since she was 8. It's attacked her many times. Trying to suffocate her in her sleep. When I was a child it would never attack me. But at times it would watch me. My mom and I tried many times getting rid of it. When my mom moved to her current address 13 years ago I moved about 15 minutes away from her. The home she now lives in is her husbands ancestral home and has a few familial ghosts of its own. Somehow they have kept this shadow out. You can feel him as he waits at the property line. I had my first child 10 years ago. A few days after we came home with her I woke in the middle of the night to pitch darkness, not able to breath, or move. I knew what it was and I fought with all of my will. Somehow I broke free and I told it that I was not my mom and that I wasn't going to play its games. This was one of the most terrifying nights of my life. My mom came over the next day and we cleaned and blessed the house. I leave further away from my mom now. Sometimes when I visit her you can feel him waiting at the propery line. Waiting...

I had a cat that was extremely attached to me for about 14 years. After she dies, for the next six years, when I would go to bed, I could feel the bed move where she jumped up and started bathing. I know it was not one of the other cats, because I looked with the lights on for a few times until I accepted her.

I've had several encounters, one which I wont mention.
The one that made me smile was the day my grandfather died. He came to visit me on my way home from work. He had passed a few hours earlier he told me that he had visited all his other grandchildren (one infant cousin responded right after grandpa's death and talked to him)I was the last on the list. I had the pleasure of saying goodbye and seeing him off to heaven.
Then there's "Fred" as my sister and I have dubbed him. He loves to make the upstairs and steps of my parent's house creak as he goes up and checks on the inhabitants of the house. Plus he's still good at hiding things that months or years later you find either in a different spot or the spot you knew it was in origionally. His fav past time though, no matter which microwave they have, is to make the microwave beep. It used to have us going out to the kitchen, but anymore we just say..."FFRREEDDD!!!" Now he includes playing with the pots and pans.

In my family we actually have a haunted piano. NO matter what house it is moved to, It always plays the same the same notes. We have cleaned it multiple times thinking rodents were living in it, but its always the same 8 notes over and over agian. Different houses, same notes. Once I was home alone and the notes started playing so I went in to watch. Once the pianist was finished, The bench moved back slightly and the room, settled if that makes sense.
That Piano has fasicanated me ever since, But I love it.
I can't say yes or no on encountering anything else because I wouldn't want to meet anything harmful. If it happens, it does. If not I'm okay with that too.

My grandmother's house in Mexico has this huge front door, about 7 inches thick and made from steel with about ten locks down the front. The point is that it's big and heavy and no one can open it without everyone else in the house knowing.
Now, hert patio is square-shaped and open in the middle of the surrounding rooms, and from where I was at my aunt's, on the above level, with a perfect view. Clearly, I saw a woman I didn't recognize walking down there. Since I hadn't heard the door opening I assumed she'd been there for a while and was on of my grandmother's friends visiting.
Later, when I went downstairs to offer some of the cookies I'd made upstairs to my abuela I asked if her friend wanted any. When she looked at me blankly I described the woman I'd seen earlier. She told me she'd been napping for a few hours and hadn't invited anyone over, But I'd CLEARLY seen her and there was no way a person could have left my grandmother's without me hearing.
Creepy. And such a usual occurance in Abuela's house.

My grandfather's house is an old victorian style place situated in the middle of the Oregon Trail town of The Dalles, Oregon. It was built well over 100 years ago, before the dam existed. To our family's knowledge at least two people have passed away there-- my great grandfather and my grandma.
I lived there for several years when I was a child, and naturally felt very comfortable going back when my grandfather needed assistance cleaning up his estate after grandma died. I was very close to grandma growing up--she was a second mother to me. While I was living there around the ages of 24 to 26, some things happened that I still cannot explain.
Several times I heard my grandfather's voice calling me to come downstairs, but when I went to answer, he was sitting alone in the living room, and told me he hadn't said anything at all. I distinctly heard the sounds of someone walking around downstairs and on the old creaky stairways, but when I took a weapon and warned a friend to look for me to come back online (because I was in the house alone) no one was there.
I distinctly heard my grandmother's voice call me from downstairs once, and also woke frequently from dreams where she smiled at me without saying anything at all. She just laughed at my grief at her loss, and tried to tell me there was nothing wrong, and never to worry.
I very much welcome these visits, but with a prudent caution. :) I don't know who the male voice was mimicking my grandfather, but I suspect my great granddad.

Just recently I had a ghost-ly experience. I was getting ready for work, putting on makeup, when in the mirror behind me I saw a little girl -- probably about 3 with dark brown hair in a pink dress. She didn't say anything. Just played with her hair and watched me. I turned around and she was gone. (Husband suspected it was just a side effect of baby fever, lol, but either way, weirdness.)

I've had many ghostly encounters over the years. I remember when I was about 14 or 15 years old, my cousins, my older brothers and I were telling ghost stories in the dark. We were all on the bed and I was at the lying at the edge next to the window. At one point I got so scared by one of the stories, and then I felt a hand caress my right shoulder down my arm as if to comfort me. I stood very still in shock because no one was behind me, but then I felt better. It calmed my fears. I would've never guessed that a ghost could make me feel safe, but it did.

This is a *true* ghost story. I promise.
When I was a teenager, I awoke one night feeling a prickle down my spine. It was quiet in the house except for the soft exhale of the heater, but I felt like I was being watched.
After several long moments, I finally drummed up the courage to roll over and look behind me, and nearly squealed when I saw a woman faintly glowing in my doorway, no more than three feet away.
She wasn't looking at me, but was rather looking toward the far side of my room behind me. She was rather tall (5'6" or so), her hair was long, brown, and up in a neat knot at the back of her head. She was wearing an old fashioned dress that had long sleeves, a long skirt, and a sash across the waist. Her face was young, and she had her hands folded disapprovingly across her chest.
I quickly rolled back over and pinched myself, thinking I was asleep or seeing things, but pinching myself hurt. I decided that I'd imagined it and she was already gone. So I looked back to see if she was still there. This time, she pinned me with a disapproving stare, her lips pressed into a smart line. She then looked away and I tried to roll myself over as quietly as possible to watch her for a while. I was surprised she was still there, and even more surprised that she didn't disappear when I rolled over.
I watched her as she looked around, not saying anything, not really moving, just leaning against the far side of my doorway.
Shaking with fear, I made the decision to turn on the light to see if she was really there. The lightswitch was just above my bed, but required me to reach up about two and a half feet. Once I got my courage up again, I reached up, flipped the switch, and my short, short-haired mother wearing flannel button down pajamas and pants was standing in my doorway in exactly the same spot. She blinked blearily at me for a moment, chastised me for turning on the light, and went back to bed.
You can probably understand why it took me a while to get back to sleep.

I grew up in a house that is almost 200 years old. We have 3 ghosts that live with us. One female names Kim and the 2 men. They never gave a name and always stayed in the shadows, the one was always up to no good, hiding stuff, turning things on and off, the other male just made his presents know but never did anything but stand and watch. kim on the other hand was ALWAYS around, she stayed mostly in my room and felt the need to come into my dreams, she was killed out front of my house at 19 and just stayed. She was engaged to the man that lived there. After that me and the hubbys first house had a murder/suicide happen in it and the male ghost there did not like females, I smugged the house many times but it just made he angerier. His wife and 2 young sons hid from him and any girl that stayed in the guest room always had her hair pulled or worse. Those are my ghost stories hope you enjoyed! I Love Your Work!!! So I had a friend who was killed suddenly. A few nights after he was killed, I was talking on the phone to another friend. I was sitting facing our china cabinet and all of the sudden my reflection got hazy. I then started smelling the scent he wore. I quickly got off the phone and went into my room. The scent followed me. I said his name and then all around me got very cold. It then felt like someone was hugging me. I told him he needs to pass on. The scent and the cold lingered for a second and then completely disappeared. That same night he visited another friend of ours. We spoke to one of friend's mom, who was heavily into the occult. She told us that she kept getting the name Casey. That was his last name.

Last Christmas, my family and I went to stay at my Mom's former home in VA (we live now in SC). The furniture was being moved out, and the house was empty. While I was helping move things, I saw a 'shadowy tabby kitty' out of the corner of my eye. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me until two days later when my Father told me about some strange noises in the houses. My husband chimed in with "I saw what looked like a cat walking through the hallway a few days before." Shocked, I explained how I saw the same thing. We agreed that perhaps it was the ghost of my former cat who had passed away several years before UNTIL......DUH DUH DUH....We got home to South Carolina and found my grey tabby kitty had died while we were in VA. We came to the conclusion that it was my kitty in SC who was telling us goodbye.....(I miss her still.)
Yes, I am well over 18 and live in the USA. kjkilgore@charter.net I'm not sure if this was a spirit encounter or not. We had our computer set up in a spare bedroom we used as a den. While I was using it my dog started to come in the room with me then stopped dead in the doorway and started barking at something. He was looking towards the wall behinde me. I looked and nothing was different from when he was in there with me before. He kept barking and refused to come in with me. I have heard the cats and dogs can see spirits. I don't know if that is what he was barking at but it has not happened since. Also seversl times while I was using the computer I saw s reflection in the screen of someone walking past the door going down the hall when I was home alone. When I was about seven I went with my grandmother and mother to an aunts house I had never been to, in a city I had never been to, and as we were getting ready for dinner, my aunt asked me to help set the table. I went into the kitchen and got plates, and silverware and set the table, when I went back to the kitchen for the glasses, everyone was starying at me. I thought I had done something wrong. Well later my grandmother told me that everyone was freaked because no one had told me where everything was and the whole day they kept asking me to do stuff that only someone who had lived in the house could have done. She told me I must have been guided by a loving soul or that I had been there in another lifetime. It wasn't until later that I really understood what she ment. Thank you for the chance to enter. When I was a pre-teen I had a series of 3 female family members pass away within a year. Shortly after each one, they came to me one night. It was comforting.
The other one was when a man passed who was my step-dad's nephew. We went to the man's mother's house and I kept seeing orbs and then they formed the shape of a man standing next to the mother while she was crying and he told me to tell her that it would be alright. I wanted to, but I was worried that I would upset her more, but I did tell my mom who thought I should tell her. I asked my mom to tell her for me and she smiled. I really think he just wanted her to not be so sad.

This happen a few years back before my family and I moved into our new house. I later learned our old house was originally andoctors office. Creepy. Anyway, I was about maybe fourteen or fifteen when the ghostly occurrences happen. It all started one December evening when my friend and I were watching scary movies, like any teenager does on a stormy night, when we started hearing sounds coming from the front hall. Of douse we assumed it was the movie, considering it was horror, so we pointly ignored it. Later though, long after my friend had left Id heard the noise again. This time I'd decided to go investigate, even though I was throughly expecting it to be my stepfather attempting to scare me. As I creeped out of my room I noticed this time the noise was coming from the room straight down the hall, I later found out the room had been used for surgeries and such, so I slipped quietly into the darkened hallway. When I walked into the room I notice a gorgeous woman standing with her back to me. Careful not to make a sound I wondered why a strange woman was in our house. As I continued to watch the lady let out a horrible sob and raked her nails across the wall! Letting out a startled scream I bolted back to my bed, straight into my bed. As I sat there cowering I stared out my door hoping she wouldn't come to my room. What seemed like for ever later, the woman appeared at my door out of no where. Startled I stared at her watching her every move. This happened almost every night for two years until we finally moved. She wouldn't come into my room, she would just....stand there staring right back unti she faded away.

When my parents died I inherited our home. Every now and then they come and visit me and my fiance. He is always getting hit in the head by them. I know when they are here because it always gets cold and then I smell cigarette smoke. Mom & dad were heavy smokers and my fiance and I don't smoke.

We had a ghost in our house when I was 10. It freaked me out enough that I went to the library to research how to protect myself from it. I ended up putting dishes of salt in all of the corners of my bedroom to cleanse it of the negative energy and give myself a safe space. I think that's when I realized I was a witch. lol

I have had a couple of encounters actually, and it's hard to decide which one is the best of them all. I'll tell of the two that stand out in my mind.
Down here, I'm in Florida, we have a plantation that is haunted. Kingsley plantation. One of the ghosts there is a former slave that was hanged for raping the teenage slave girls. He is known only as Red Eyes. I have actually seen him and it was creepy. I felt evil coming off of this "creature".
The second one is the house turned museum, and after going on a tour down in St Augustine which is where this place is, we sat in front of the house, and I was forced to move. The evil that I felt coming off of this thing, it scared me.
But there is one that happened on a good note. I have a "spirit" that follows me around and helps to "take care" of me. He keeps me out of trouble. Kinda like a guardian angel or whatever it is that you want to call them.
Love your books and am eagerly waiting for the next one to come out next year.

I have had many encounters with spirits. I used to live in Las Vegas and My lights would turn on on off even not plugged in. My favorite stereo would turn on and off all the time, even when it was put away in the box. It was pretty freaky. Didn't really bother me much though it was annoying at 3 AM. There was also an incident a few years ago here at my current house. I was pregnant with my daughter and I thought I felt the bed move but I knew I was the only one home so I was a lot freaked out. I have 8" memory foam mattress and there was a dip where it looked like someon sat on the edge of the bed where I thought I felt the other person. Scared me that time. It was the perfect indentction of someone's butt. There is also lights turning off and on all the time. I have done some evp's in my house and got things back. I hear things in my daughter moniter all the time. Nothing to freak me out but it's a little scary. There is many more times. I have one where I lived in a 2 story apartment building and you could literly hear someone walking around upstairs when no one lived there. Things were always banging around like someone actually lived there. There are many other times I can talk about. I went to a house built by an old Indian burial ground in Cortez, CO. We were moving fomr the house and packing things up. We stayed up late one night packing and when we got up the next morning, everything was back in its place. The blender would turn on even when it wasn't plugged in. The spririts that lived there didn't want us to go. They played with us many times, even just joking around.
In the basement of the building I used to work in, the City Hall of Laramie, I felt a presence whenever I was down there at night. The section I usually was in used to be the jail. My boss heard voices and smelled smoke. There had been a fire there like 50 years before and there was no traces of it left.

I've had a number of ghostly encounters in my life, a few of which have stood out. The oldest paranormal memory I have takes place in my grade school in Alaska. I was in the hallway and the lights were bright. The school wasn't that old so the walls still had most of their whiteness, which contributed to the vibrancy. I looked down the hallway, then into a classroom, and when I looked back down the hall I saw this... black shape. It was small. It slowly walked down the hall, and as it got closer I realized it was a cat. The cat's body seemed... static-y. Insubstantial. I knew it wasn't a real cat-- or a living cat, at least. I couldn't deny that it was there, however. It made no noise as it approached me, and I didn't take my eyes off it. That is, until someone walked past me and distracted me. I looked their way, and when I looked back, the cat was gone.

About 10 years ago I moved to Pittsburgh it was a triangle shaped apartment building I lived on the second floor which went the whole layout of the building. The first night I awoke out of a dead sleep which I don't do, and locked all the windows and chained the doors. Later after my roomate moved in strange things would start happening the tv would change channels constantly stuff would fall off the wall more like fly off, one night again I was by myself I heard this crash in the kitchen ran in there and nothing was amiss. Doors and windows would slam shut constantly, pacing footsteps in the hallway meanwhile nobody there. One day out of the corner of my eye down the hallway in my room, stood a middleaged woman in early 1900 period dress she was gray in appearance.
y roomate and I referred as "Ethel"
and Ethel seemed to have a sence of humor because she loved to scare the hell out of our guests all the time.
