I have a surprise for you! I’m going to attempt a regular blogging schedule, to be interrupted by mostly great announcements (if I have any) or massive work deadlines (a given). This doesn’t mean an every day schedule, but I’m going to try to hit the blog more regularly than I have been and lay off hanging out on Twitter and FB so much.
And for a treat, each Thursday’s post will be an excerpt from Night Myst until the book comes out.
Since the first chapter is up on my site, I’m giving you excerpts from the beginning of Chapter 2. (And don’t get greedy—no complaining or I stop). And if I find anybody reproducing this on other sites--I stop and everybody loses out. That means: NO cutting/pasting/copying/sending through email.

I reached further, seeking Heather’s energy—latching on to what I best remembered about her: the lavender and cinnamon scents that clung to her skin and clothing. As my energy stretched thin, seeking any clue, a whisper raced past. “They have her. They have her.” And then it was gone again. Rhiannon was right—something had snatched my aunt. And whatever it was, it was big and it was bad and it was out there, in the forest.
I opened my eyes and yawned, shaking off the sudden surge of energy. “Let’s get inside.”
When we entered the house, the warmth hit me like a blast from a furnace and I peeled off my jacket and walked into the living room I remembered so well, drawing back the curtain to gaze out the window by my aunt’s desk. The forest was a wonderland, covered in white, looking pristine and beautiful, but there was something dark there now, a shadow that hid under the sparkling cloak of snow.
“I only know that she’s been abducted. Somebody has her, but I don’t know who.” I didn’t want to ask the next question, but I had to. “Have you seen Grieve? He might know what’s going on.”
Just speaking his name made my heart ache. I missed him. But the last time I came home—nine years ago—he’d asked me to stay. I couldn’t, and he turned distant and aloof. I’d left without saying good-bye.
Rhiannon wrapped her arm around my shoulder, pressing her cheek to mine. “No, he hasn’t shown himself since you last went away.”
That figured. I had the feeling he wouldn’t, either, until I apologized. And even then, I might have blown my chance forever. Another fear I’d been running away from since my mother died. But now . . . my wolf whimpered and I gently rubbed my hand across my stomach, feeling the tattoo stir with worry. Grieve was out there, and he knew I was home.

Review of Night Myst!
Talk about relief! Though people who've read the ARC have so far loved Night Myst, here's the first written review. Color me happy!
Seattle Mystery Bookshop
Fran Fuller:
And while we’re talking about new paranormal series, bestselling author Yasmine Galenorn will introduce us to the first in the “Indigo Court” series in July.
In Night Myst (Jove, $7.99), we meet Cicely Waters, a witch who can speak to the wind. Cicely is called back to her family home in New Forest, WA, when the town witch is found murdered, and the police have no interest in investigating. The local vampire organization disavows any knowledge of the killing, and in fact, they seem to be on edge themselves.
There’s something else in the woods, and it’s taking over the town. The Indigo Court is now awake.
Fans of Ms. Galenorn will immediately recognize that this series is edgier and darker than her famous Otherworld series, and that’s not a bad thing. While I love the Sisters of the Moon, I think perhaps this is the series Yasmine Galenorn was meant to write. There are subtleties and threads you can see beginning and starting to twist through this first book that hint of darkness and loss and all manner of self-discovery that are going to keep people guessing for years to come.
We will have signed copies, so reserve yours now. This is not a series you’re going to want to miss!

CHAPTER 2 (part 1)

The next morning I stared up at the rambling three-story house that had been my only home for the first six years of my life, and sucked in a deep breath, shivering in the twenty-two-degree morning.
I couldn’t wait to see Aunt Heather and my cousin Rhiannon again. They were the only family I had, and they were good people. I knocked on the door and Rhiannon answered.
It had been nine years since I’d seen her, but my cousin looked the same—just a little older. Tall, willowy, with flaming red hair just like Aunt Heather’s. But one look at her face told me something was wrong. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she looked like her head hadn’t touched a pillow for a while.
“What’s going on?”
She shook her head. “Heather disappeared.”
Fuck. I was too late. “But I just talked to her a few days ago.”
I leaned against one of the columns of the front porch as Rhiannon came out to join me. She was wrapped in an oversized fuzzy robe, and she stood, staring across the lawn at the wood, her eyes flickering like two amber cabochons.
“I came home from work yesterday and she was gone. Vanished. Like she’d never been here.”
I winced. Heather had been more mother to me than my own mother. “Did you call the cops?”
“For all the good it did. They won’t file missing person’s reports for forty-eight hours, and they tried to convince me that she went on a trip and forgot to tell me.” Rhiannon pressed her lips together so hard they turned white. “Heather left her purse and her keys in the house. Her car’s in the driveway. She’s out there, Cicely.” She nodded toward the forest. “I know it.”
I crossed my arms, shivering as I surveyed the ravine buttressing the edge of the vast lawn. Veil House—my aunt’s home—was situated on a triple-sized lot at the end of Vyne Street, a half-empty cul-de-sac. The lawn bordered a thicket of trees, which rode the ravine down one side and up the other. A copse blended into a wooded glade. The wood was thick with firs and cedars, but a pall hung over the area like invisible smog and the air felt dusty, like in an abandoned house that had been closed off for too long.
A gust of wind slashed through me and I thought I heard a snarl.
Someone isn’t happy you’re back. Ulean whisked the air around me, stirring it up into a cloak that wrapped around my shoulders. You are in danger.
From what?
I don’t know. The energy is hard to read, but this is the same sort of creature we sensed last night in the parking lot. It’s deadly and it’s powerful, and it’s watching you.
Fuck, I thought as I pulled my leather jacket tighter. Danger, I could handle, if I knew what the danger was. Another gust came whipping by, sending a swirling haze of snowflakes up on the porch. Too cold—it was too cold even for December here. New Forest got snow, but not a lot and it never stayed long.
“I know it’s cold out here, but is there any chance you can pick up on where she might be?” Rhiannon leaned against the opposite beam. “You were always a powerful witch, even when we were small. Can you read the wind for me?”
“Not really so powerful,” I said, thinking about how much had slid by the wayside while I was on the road with Krystal. “But I’ll try.” I closed my eyes, focusing on the sharp-edged breeze that whistled past. Sometimes it was Ulean who spoke to me. Other times it was the wind itself.
Flutterings rode the breeze, scattered whispers and thoughts, the usual stuff. But behind the gusts and sudden drafts crept a shadow that made me uneasy. Some shadows are comforting and protective. Others steal the light. And this one sucked the warmth and life right out of the day.

Breaking Chair (not quite Breaking Dawn)
So today, today...I knew it was Mercury retrograde even before I actually knew. How? Well, picture this:
Clue 1: I am sitting at my desk. I decide to give my friend Sassy a call. I flip open my cell phone and a chunk of plastic breaks off the hinge. It opens weird and while it still works, I have the uneasy feeling it won't be for long. Phone was old, been meaning to replace for awhile. Guess it's time, right?
Clue 2: Couple hours later. I am still sitting at my desk. I lean back, just a little (and understand, I do NOT lean back in chairs easy, I'm not a sprawler, I don't fling myself into chairs--I like sitting upright, I like feeling some control to my back). So anyway, I lean back a little and as I am typing there is a VERY LOUD SNAP...no...a VERY LOUD CRACK and my chair shudders. First thought; Hell, I'm going down, woman overboard, call the lifeguard!!! Seconds later, BOOM, floor shakes a little as VERY HEAVY chair back lands on the floor and I'm suddenly sitting on a backless chair, otherwise known as a stool on wheels.
I wait, poised, ready to grab the desk in case the rest of the chair crumbles under me. I wait, hold my breath, nothing happens. I slowly turn around and stare at the back of the chair, thanking the gods I hadn't been relaxing because that alone saved me from taking a tumble backwards on the the edge of my desk, which would have made my bad back that much worse. I may never relax in chair again.
I figure, wow, as I IM my husband saying, "My chair just broke" and then realize he was going to interpret that as...yep, he did. IM comes back, "WHAT? Are you OK?"
After assuring him that I'm okay, I find myself posting on Twitter about it--hey, that's Twitterworthy, right? And then, I slowly stand up and edge away from the chair. It wasn't old but it wasn't that comfortable. I've been thinking about replacing it for awhile. Guess it's time, right?
Samwise came home, we went out and I found a Very Nice (read: expensive and actually comfortable for my body type) desk chair. I'll have it tomorrow. It's a BodyBilt and I'm happy. We stopped by Verizon and bought new cell phones (his was as old as mine--which is like four-five years old). I now have a new phone I have to learn how to use.
Now, I have the desire to replace my desk, but that can wait for a bit. Unless it decides to fall apart on me. (Please don't!). So that was how my day went. How about you?

Where Are The E-books?
Penguin and the ebook companies are debating over pricing. I have no control over this. For now, this means that there are very few legal ebooks of my work available (US residents can find ebooks on http://www.bn.com/ still). I implore you NOT to download illegal pirated versions of my work--this will directly hurt me, the author.
The books are all still available in print, so I ask you to either read print (borrow from the library is a good way if you aren't sure you want to buy it later), listen to the audio versions, or wait until the publisher and ebook companies get this sorted out.
There's nothing I can do about this situation--the authors are the ones caught in the middle, and we have no recourse.

Ch-ch-ch-changes.......
As Bowie sings, “Ch-ch-ch-changes…” are in the air. We have an announcement here—happy for all of us, even though it’s a little bittersweet. As most of you know, I’ve had a happy, lovely time with my assistant Justine Greene over the past year. But times are changing for both of us and we’re parting ways in business, though not friendship.
Some new opportunities that have amazing potential have opened up for Justine, and she needs to try them out. And for me—my needs have shifted to where I need a local assistant much more than a virtual assistant. So this seemed the perfect time for us to make the change and return our relationship to the ‘friendship’ category. However, she WILL still be a mod in my forums, for which I am grateful!
As of May 1st, Jennifer Anderson, (@jl_anderson on twitter) who has been a part time contractor for me on the local level for a few months now, will take over all of my assistant needs, both online and local. There will be a transition period the next ten days or so, as we shift documents and duties and accounts, so excuse the construction signs if email gets backed up a little or answers are a little sporadic in coming. The geekgyrlfrigev account on Twitter will have a new name soon, and Jenn will be taking that over as her official twitter for me. She’ll be answering your questions, so don’t be surprised to see icons and names shift.
My husband, Samwise, will still be doing my Myspace and FB for me, so expect to see more of him too.
Sometimes you have to follow the current where it’s leading you, and all three of us are shifting and making changes in our lives—and this is just one more exciting transition for us all.
Thank you, Justine, for all the help you’ve been this past year, I truly hope the new work you’re doing just climbs sky-high for you. And Jenn—I’m thrilled to have you on board.

WOOHOO! Exciting News and a Contest!
The Contest Closed at 12:00 Midnight Last Night--April 11th--no entries after that time will be counted.
I have exciting news, and a fun way to celebrate it. First: I have just accepted a new contract from Berkley for three more Otherworld books, (and no, I'm not sure when the series will end, so don't ask). The sisters have a ways to go before mopping up Shadow Wing. ~grins~ I’m thrilled to be continuing the series, I adore my editor, and want to give a shout out to my agent, Meredith, for all her hard work. She deserves every penny.
And on that note, what better way to celebrate it than hold the first contest for NIGHT MYST ARCS—yes, I have ARCS of NIGHT MYST and you have a chance on winning one. I’ll have a couple more contests over the next week or two, but this first one is for THREE—yes THREE—ARCS. Everybody can enter who’s over 18, but you must specify contact information in your entry. The contest will run through midnight Sunday night, April 11th, Pacific Daylight Time. I will pick the winners and announce them early next week.
To Enter:
Leave me a comment here today (and more than just “enter me” or “hi”), and MAKE SURE TO LEAVE YOUR CONTACT INFO (email) in your comment. Got it? Don’t string it out in another comment, delete your comment and make a new one if you forgot and later remembered. Make it easy on me folks, I’m on deadline. You MUST be 18 or over to enter (state so in your entry), and because of the special nature of this contest, I'm opening it to everyone who enters correctly. ONE entry per person.
So yes, three more Sisters books, and ARCs of Night Myst—what better way to celebrate the rest of the week???

Storm Coming & Harvest Hunting Notes
The wind is picking up here—we’re due for a storm today and it *could* be a real nasty one. So I’ve got the roast in the crockpot to get it cooked up, and made sure to get a long hot shower this morning, made sure my netbook and phone are charged up, just in case because we lose power here easy. The storm will be bringing high gusts with it, and heavy rain. Heavy snow in the mountains—one to three feet and blizzard like conditions. Now, a little wind is one thing but we’ve had a number of ‘once in a lifetime’ storms here. In 2006, we had a monster storm roll through. Lost power for three days, but some people were without for two weeks. Take a look at a few of these YouTube vids if you want to see what it’s like here after a bad windstorm: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.
I got my revision notes on Harvest Hunting—not much and I agree with all of them so a day or two of revising and I should be good to go. Woohoo! I’m so glad she loved the book. Delilah comes into her own here, and by that I mean she grows into her power and strength.
Okay, I’d better get to work here while thing are still moving along without a hitch. More later, and if you live in the western WA area, stay safe.
